Accommodation in Chobe National Park

Chobe National Park is one of the top tourist attractions in Botswana located in the Northern part of the country. All lodges found both within and outside Chobe National park come in different categories and these are budget/basic, mid-range, and luxury accommodation facilities catering to all tourists traveling to Chobe National Park. Accommodation plays an important role in determining the cost of your safari and you should therefore choose a facility that fits your budget. Below is a list of our favorite lodges that you can choose from as you plan for your Chobe National Park safari.

Savute Elephant camp

Savute Elephant camp is located right in the middle of Chobe National Park at the banks of the Savute channel. The lodge accommodates a maximum of 24 people in 12 canvas tented rooms which are fitted with twin beds. Each of these rooms has thatched rooms, private viewing decks, are furnished with a hammock and comfortable chairs, air conditioning, an outside shower, an electronic safe, a hair dryer, overhead fans, electric heaters for cold nights, en-suite bathrooms, and mosquito net.

Some of the highlights that you should expect at the Savute lodge include a heated swimming pool, an outdoor dining area commonly known as Boma, a private deck for game viewing, luxurious accommodation facilities, satellite television sets, Wi-Fi, and a fully stocked bar. You can get to Savute Elephant camp by road from either Livingstone or Victoria Falls and you can also fly to the nearby airstrips from where a safari vehicle will be waiting to pick you up.

Tea or coffee is served early in the morning with a light breakfast before guests set off for their daily activities. Lunch and dinner are served in the dining area but you can still make arrangements to have it from the privacy of your room or balcony as you enjoy the great views of Savute and the wildlife.

Several activities are carried out at the lodge and these include guided nature walks and game drives that are carried out both in the morning and late afternoon hours in a 4×4 vehicle. Common animal sightings around Savute include elephants, lions, tsessebe, zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, wild dogs, cheetahs, wildebeests, leopards although occasionally, and giraffes among others.

The price paid includes accommodation, National Park fees, laundry services, meals throughout your stay, drinks both local, and premium, and game viewing activities. It however does not include visa fees, personal purchases, curios, transport to the lodge, and Gratuities.

Muchenje Lodge

The lodge offers 10 luxurious tented chalets with twin beds housing a maximum of 20 guests. The chalets are grass thatched and each of the rooms is furnished with twin beds, a private viewing balcony, en-suite bathrooms, flushing toilets, and mosquito beds. Activities carried out at the Muchenje lodge include game drives carried out using a 4×4 vehicle, cultural trips to the nearby villages, boat cruises along the Chobe river, game viewing on the viewing platforms, and birding.

Muchenje has a main lodge where you will find the game viewing platform, reception, dining area, curio shop, library, and a well-stocked bar. Meals are served in the dining area which is on a raised escarpment, the meals cater to all tourists including vegetarians and if you want to enjoy your meals in a private setting, this can also be arranged for as long as you communicate in time.  Highlights that you should expect while here include a swimming pool which was built into an existing rock formation, views of the animals from the raised escarpment, and welcoming staff.

The price paid to the lodge caters for accommodation, laundry services, meals throughout your stay, all drinks minus the premium brand, activities like game drives and guided nature walks, and tea and coffee. It does not include premium drinks, gratuities, transport to the lodge, curios, personal purchases, and travel insurance.

Chobe Game lodge

Chobe Game lodge is found at the bank of the Chobe River and offers some of the best luxurious services. The lodge has 44 rooms overlooking the River with 4 luxurious suites that have private viewing terraces and a private plunge pool. The rooms are fitted with mosquito nets, tea and coffee-making facilities, en-suite bathrooms, overhead fans, a complimentary minibar, and the privacy that tourists need as they enjoy their safaris.

Chobe Game lodge offers a variety of activities both water and land bases and these are led by a professional tour guide. Game drives are carried out both in the morning and evening hours in 4×4 vehicles that provide excellent views of the wildlife. Other activities carried out include boat cruises along the Chobe River, guided Nature walks, and birding. Guided nature walks are carried out along the River banks, Kasane forest, star gazing, and gardens around the lodge.

Meals will be provided throughout your stay and these include dishes from all over the world which are served at the restaurant terrace overlooking the River. The rooms at Chobe Game lodge are about $484 per person per night.

Chobe Chilwero Game lodge

The Chobe Chilwero lodge is located right at the banks of the Chobe River bordering Chobe National Park. The lodge has 15 luxurious exclusive cottages with each room having air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, mosquito nets, an in-room safe, hair dryers, and minibar and ceiling fans. They also have private terraces from where you can have private meals and do some star gazing and housekeeping is carried out throughout your stay at the lodge.

Activities that are carried out at the lodge include a full day of game drives where you find animals like elephants, giraffes, kudus, red Lechwe, buffalos, pukus, hippos, lions, and other antelope species among others. Other activities include photo safaris, guided nature walks, and birding among others. Note that Chobe Chilwero is just one and half hours away from the Victoria Falls and you can take a half-day ride and enjoy the Falls.

The price per room at the Chobe Chilwero camp range from $800 and above and these include all meals throughout your stay, laundry services, transfers to the lodge from Kasane, two activities per day throughout your stay, and soft local drinks. It however excludes gratuities, premium drinks, and personal purchases. It can accommodate children of all ages and children below the age of 15 have to share a room with an adult (this is a must).

Ghoha Hills Savuti Lodge

Overlooking the Savuti plains, the Ghoha Hills Savuti lodge is a luxurious facility that offers its guests a 180 degrees view of the surrounding areas. The lodge has 11 luxury en-suite tented rooms some of which are fitted with king-sized beds, and twin or double beds to accommodate the guests. 9 of the suites accommodate twin beds or double beds and two are family suites that can accommodate two children and two adults.

All the rooms were built facing a different side of the hill and each has indoor and outdoor showers, en-suite bathrooms, comfortable chairs, tea and coffee facilities, mosquito nets, toiletries like slippers, gowns, good quality linen, a private deck from where you can enjoy meals, star gazing and game viewing.

The main lodge is where you will find the dining area, swimming pool, spa, gym, lounge, library, deck, gym, and a well-stocked bar. The lodge can accommodate about 26 people. There are several activities that you can engage in while at the lodge and these include bush walks and game drives which are carried out with the help of an experienced tour guide. Sights that you should look out for while on these walks and drives include several bird species, animals like wild dogs, elephants, zebras, giraffes, and lions among others.

Biscuits are served in the morning with tea and coffee and a light breakfast that includes freshly baked muffins and fresh fruit is served as any other meals that you would want to have, lunch is also served and the lodge offers packed picnics for your game drives and dinner is served in the dining area unless you request otherwise.

Facilities at the lodge include a swimming pool, lounge, Curio shop, Bomas, and a bar. Amnesties carried out here include a terrace from where you can watch the animals, housekeeping, and en-suite bathrooms. A few things that you should carry as you plan your stay at the lodge include sunscreen, a warm jacket for the cold mornings and evenings, comfortable walking shoes, a camera with extra batteries, and binoculars.

The Savute Safari lodge

Located along the banks of the Savute channel, the Savute safari lodge has some of the greatest views around the National Parks due to the presence of the two waterholes and the great zebra migration that can be seen from the comfort of your room. 12 chalets were constructed using wood and are thatched. They are decorated in a way that the rooms blend in well with their surroundings, with en-suite bathrooms, private verandas, hair dryers, and safety deposit boxes where you can keep your valuables.

Amenities at the lodge include laundry services, gift shops, Boma areas that are communal, a communal pool, and internet but they do not provide WIFI. There is a double-storeyed building that acts as the main lodge and it is where you find the lounge, library, a fresco dining area, viewing deck, and comfortable chairs.

Activities that are carried out at the lodge include 4×4 game drives that are carried out both in the morning and late afternoon hours throughout your stay, a trip to the Gubasta hills and guided nature walks.  Chobe National Park has over 50, 000 elephants and these can be seen while on game drives, nature walks, and from the main lodge at Savute. Other animals that you can see include wild dogs, crocodiles, and various types of antelopes, hippos, and jackals among others. The rooms at Savute go for $585 per person per night.

Chobe Marina Lodge

Chobe Marina lodge is located in Kasane town just right outside Chobe National Park offering 30 luxurious suites, 6 honeymoon suites, and 30 standard suites. The standard rooms have features that include minibars, daily housekeeping, telephones, and satellite televisions. The standard rate at the Chobe Marine lodge is about $562 and above.

Highlights at the Marina lodge include a swimming pool, it is just five minutes away from Chobe National Park, there prime viewing of the wildlife, luxurious accommodation, two restaurants, and a bar and it is near Victoria Falls. Chobe Marina has a lot of facilities for their guests and these include internet, telephones in rooms to call at the reception, laundry services, restaurants, braais at the swimming pool, and open parking space. The fees paid include transport to the lodge, luxurious accommodation, all meals throughout your stay, and two game drives per day until you leave. It does not include travel insurance, premium drinks, and park entrance fees.

The Chobe Marine lodge offers quality services that are worth the money paid some of the activities that are carried out here include game drives, guided nature walks, and boat cruises along the Chobe River. The rooms go for $447 per person per night at the Chobe Marine lodge.

Nogatsaa Pans lodge

The Nogatsaa Pans Lodge is about 80 kilometers away south of Chobe National Park and got its name from the clay pans around it that provide water to the animals during the dry season. The lodge has 12 luxurious tented rooms that can house a maximum of 28 people. Each tent has a private deck, comfortable chairs, mosquito nets, and ceiling fans and each room is about $482 per person per night.

The main lodge consists of a bar, dining area, recharging station, WIFI, raised viewing deck, and comfortable chairs where you relax and mingle with other tourists. There is a curio shop, library, and open-air Boma. Daily activities that are carried out at the lodge include game drives with views of animals like zebras, baboons, elephants, and giraffes among others, stargazing which can be done from the comfort of your private veranda, guided nature walks, and birding. This is the perfect getaway for tourist who wants peace since it is located in a remote area.

Ngoma safari lodge 

Ngoma safari lodge is located in the Chobe forest and perched on the edge of the plateau where it offers tourists clear views of the surroundings and the wildlife around the lodge. It is a 5-star lodge in a bushy environment giving tourists the privacy that they need as they enjoy their safari to Chobe National Park.

8 comfortable suites are widely spaced and each of these rooms has a bathtub you can soak in after the day’s activities, a private deck, cosy nooks, open bathrooms, and comfortable beds with good quality linen. Two of the 8 rooms can act as family rooms as extra beds can still be fitted in for the children.

The lodge was constructed using local materials that is wood and grass for the roofs near a private oasis. The main lodge has a dining area, volcanic rock swimming pool, viewing deck, reception, and a bar and this is where you can join other tourists and share the day’s activities as you enjoy dinner that consists of all international cuisines.  Brunch, lunch, and dinner are served around an open fire and if you want to enjoy private dinners, this can be arranged with prior communication to the chef.

Popular activities that are carried out at Ngoma Marina lodge include walking safaris, night drives, cultural trips, birding, and game drives all of which are to be done with the guidance of an experienced tour guide. Currently, the Ngoma lodge has a good offer where if you book for two nights between January and 31st March you get one night free. Every tourist is expected to pay $604 per night.

Chobe Savana lodge

This is an extremely small but luxurious intimate camp with 12 chalets offering accommodation to tourists. It is found at the banks of the Chobe River and overlooks the Chobe National Park. The rooms are furnished chalets with en-suite facilities like en-suite bathrooms, flushing toilets, a private deck where you view the wildlife clearly, air conditioning and each room has its complimentary mini bar.

Activities that are carried out in Chobe Savana lodge include boat rides along the Chobe River, fishing is also a past time activity that is carried out, especially during the shoulder season and the main fish caught is tiger fish (note that this is a catch and release sport), game drives around the National Park, village tours to the surrounding communities and guided nature walks. The cost of accommodation varies and it includes National Park fees, all meals throughout your stay, laundry services, safari activities, emergency evacuation medical insurance, and accommodation. It does not include premium drinks, curios, personal purchases, gratuities, personal travel insurance, and transport to the lodge.

Chobe under the canvas

Chobe under the canvas is a mobile tented camp found within the Chobe National Park. The cost goes for $575 per person per night and this facility is best for tourists who love adventure as they keep on moving from one place to the next. The camp is unfenced from the other parts of the National Park making it the best place to go for game viewing in Chobe.

There are 5 mobile tents under the canvas and these are suitable for children who are 12 years and above with each tent accommodating a maximum of two people. The tents are in Meru style, each with a veranda where comfortable chairs are set for tourists to sit on as they enjoy game viewing. As you enter the tent, you will find the double or twin beds situated near the tent entrance, there is a storage trunk and rechargeable lanterns on the tables near the beds. The bathroom is just right behind the bed and there is a canvas wall that separates the flashing toilets shaving mirror, water jug, basin, and bucket shower.

Meals are all served at the sided mess tent which is flanked by a table and safari chairs where all tourists are expected to eat. The bar is set up near the dining area, there are also board games and a mini library where you can relax from.

The price per room paid includes luxurious accommodation, VAT, emergency medical evacuation emergency, all meals throughout your stay, safari activities, airport transfers to and from the lodge, soft drinks, game drive snacks and if you book for two nights, you get one photographic experience in Chobe. It however does not include personal purchases, landing fees, gratuities, telephone calls, and premium brands (drinks).
